A: A photocatalyst accelerates the catalyst in the substance, a reaction that requires light.
Q: How long do our coatings last for?
A: When applied properly, our coatings can last for up to 10 years depending on the usage of the surface. As long as it has a surface to work on & sufficient UV Light, it will continue to work.
Q: What kind of light is needed for our coatings to work?
A:Our coatings are activated by ultraviolet light, and more specifically the UV-A range of light. Sources of UV-A light include: direct sunlight, ambient light (found on cloudy days or in the shade) and artificial fluorescent light.
Q: How much light is needed for our coatings to work?
A: The strength of light is measured in watts per square centimeter or mW/cm2. To experience the full self-cleaning benefit of TouchClean® 0.10 mW/cm2 is required. The strength of direct sunlight (1.2-2.0 mW/cm2) or ambient light (0.5 mW/cm2) is more than enough to activate TouchClean® self-cleaning benefit, air-cleansing, and odour-eliminating benefits.
Q: Can our coatings be applied in all weather conditions?
A:Exterior and Glass applications can be affected by climatic conditions such as temperature, humidity and wind speed unless applied under shelter, the interior application can be provided all year round due to no weather complications.
Q: Can anybody apply our photocatalyst coatings?
A: No, they require professional application and can only be used by trained operatives.
Q: Do surfaces need to be cleaned before our coatings are applied?
A: Yes, surfaces must be cleaned with sugar soap to remove any oils and dirt before the coating is applied.
Q: What can coatings can our surfaces be applied to?
A: Any surface such as glass, brickwork, stone, fabric or textile.
Q: Will I have to clean the windows once they are coated?
A: Cleantech coated windows will self clean every time it rains. Following long dry periods or areas that have been sheltered from rainfall, a simple hose may be required to rejuvenate the glass. If the glass is overwhelmed by a contaminating source such as a large tree, the self cleaning process cannot keep up and may need to be cleaned.
A: The coating is usually touch dry within 1 hour but must be kept from human contact for 8 hours.
Q: How long does it take for for our coatings to start working?
A: Approximately 2-3 days depending on light source. It will develop a hydrophilic state as the coating becomes harder with exposure to UV light. (Usually full hardness is achieved within 4-6 weeks depending on light source, a scratch test has shown the coating to be 0.7 PH)
Q: How are our coatings applied?
A: All coatings are applied via a non visible spray coating using a spray gun and air compressor.
Q: What should I use to clean the surface if necessary?
A: Activated surfaces should only require a simple wash with water to regain its clarity. For heavy duty muck it uses warm water but the need for detergents is not required.
Q: How can you remove our coatings?
A: The only way to remove our applications is with straight ammonia and aggressive mechanical action.
Q: Have our coatings been approved by any governing bodies?
A: Our coatings have been approved by the SIPTA, The Japanese Photocatalyst committee and has passed European Standards testing to EN13697:2001. Our coatings has also been used in the Freemans Hospital to help with Infection Control and St Ebbas Hospital to help with toilet maintenance.
Q: Can coatings work when no UV-A light is present?
A: We have a low light no light product available that can remove germs but cannot remove odours and cannot self clean.
Q: What chemicals are used in?
A: Our coatings contains 99% water and 1% of the mineral titanium dioxide. This enables the product to be both human and environmentally friendly.
Q: How much do our coatings cost?
A: We are unable to dictate the price that is charged and each job will come with its own requirements but over time there is usually a cost saving when compared to a traditional cleaning and painting costs.
